When Rivers Leave Their Banks: How Flood Control Barriers Help Protect Vulnerable Areas

When the River Moves Beyond Its Channel

Japan's Pacific coast faced torrential rainfrom Typhoon Dujuan in September. Reuters reported that a river near Sakura inChiba overflowed after the heavy rain, flooding a resident's home. The eventcame only weeks after widespread flooding in Chiba had disrupted transportationand stranded passengers at Narita Airport.

The river rises. Water reaches the bank. Then it starts moving toward a road, a residential street, or a low section ofnearby infrastructure.

At that point, the useful question is oftenvery local:

Which section needs protection first?

Build Protection Along the VulnerableSection

Flood Control Barriers can be used tocreate temporary protection lines along selected areas exposed to riveroverflow.

Rather than requiring a permanent wallbeside the entire river, modular sections can be positioned around the locationsthat need immediate attention.

They can be considered for:

·Low-lying areas beside rivers

·Roads close to riverbanks

·Residential access roads

·Temporary repair areas

·Infrastructure located near potential overflow paths

The barrier uses welded low-carbon steelpanels connected with spiral springs. Sections can be linked together to formthe required length and arranged according to the site.

Sand, soil or other suitable fillingmaterial can then be used on site, making the system practical for emergencyprojects where transporting large solid barriers would be difficult.

Follow the Risk, Not Just the Riverbank

Water may move through a low point, acrossa road, toward an entrance or around an existing structure. The protection linetherefore needs to reflect the actual terrain.

1.With more than 10 available sizes, FloodControl Barriers can be selected according to the required protection heightand site conditions.

2.Removable configurations are alsoavailable when the protection is intended for temporary flood response.

If you are dealing with a river-adjacentsite, send us the area layout, required height and approximate protectionlength. We can help you select a suitable Flood Control Barriers configuration.
